The elderly lord Chamberlain, chief counselor to king Claudius and father or Ophelia. I the third act he tries to help the king to get rid of Hamlet or find a cure for his madness but in the end of the act is killed because he was hiding behind a curtain over hearing Hamlet and Gertrude argue and then Hamlet stabbed him thinking it was Claudius the king.
